Banjarmasin is one of city in Indonesia, a capital province of South Kalimantan. It is located in south of Kalimantan Island; surrounded by so many rivers. That’s why this town is known as a thousand rivers. A plane takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes to get to Banjarmasin from Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. Banjarmasin is really worth visiting for its beautiful nature and culture. It is suitable for those who want to find something new in a town, because the town is both traditional and modern.
When To Go?
Generally speaking, Indonesia has only 2 seasons in a year, so does Banjarmasin. The best time to visit Banjarmasin is between June to September,  when the days are sunny and dry. August and September is being the driest months of the year. On average, the temperatures are always high. It is not recommended to visit on wet seasons as it has an extreme rainfall that will last for couple of hours and definitely will spoil your trip.
Costs
To travel around Banjarmasin is slightly more expensive than Java because the public transportation is still limited. If you take a flight from Jakarta, it costs about 2-3mio for round trip. Fror the daily lifecost, it is still much affordable since everyone has their diffrent standard for that.
Tips
Here’s some tips to visit Banjarmasin:
1.     Don’t forget to wear sunscreen to all over your body, especially your face and reapply throughout the day since you have to suffer in heat weather.
2.     Drink plenty of water.
3.     Be able to speak Indonesian is  a must or learn some survival phrases.

To travel around Banjarmasin, there are different kind of transportation available. One of them is water transportation by Kelotok, a small boat that can bring you from place to place to get around the rivers.
Floating market or usually called ‘Pasar Terapung’ is the iconic thing in Banjarmasin. It has a strong presence for the town. One of popular floating market here is Lok Baintan. Each morning at dawn before the sun rises, the people gather on the water to sell and trade everything, such as fruits, vegetables, fresh fish, eggs and oil.
One of the best food in the town is Soto Banjar, it’s kind of chicken noodle soup. It is normally served as a main dish. There are so many different kind of soto in Indonesia but this one is different. There are some food destination to visit, which you can try all the unique dishes from South Kalimantan, as well as delicious traditional snacks that you can not find elsewhere. The people are very friendly. The town is very green as it has so many forests, since Kalimantan is world’s lung with covering 40.8 millions hectares of forests.
Some people might think that Kalimantan is just full of forest right and there, darkness, or they think there’s no cellphone or any fancy shopping center and people here lived primitive which actually some of it are not true at all. In Banjarmasin, you can go to shopping center because there are two malls and some big  marketplaces. You can watch movie in cinema and call your friend by your phone. Don’t worry, the electricity is available there.
